No Easy Way Down
Live, Edinburgh Cabaret Voltaire, Saturday 7th November.
Mark Eitzel's return to Edinburgh saw him on absolutely phenomenal form. I think he really is better than he has ever been vocally.
Support came from Franz Nicolay of the Hold Steady whose highly theatrical turn with guitar and accordian went down well.
Eitzel began with 'I left my heart in San Francisco' moving into a series of songs about his home city including 'Mission Rock Resort', a song that once inspired me to take an ill-advised tour of SF's less salubrious neighbourhoods. Comic and self-deprecating Eitzel has the spirit of Jacques Brel and an immense talent, though he probably would never accept that.
Ending with vintage tune 'Nightwatchman' he left the audience roaring for more.Labels: livemusic, markeitzel

Liquid Fire
If you look through the archives of this blog you will find lots of reviews and photos of shows at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh. Sadly the venue has been hit by a terrible fire which could close if for up to a year. Where to go? There are smaller venues like Bannermans and Cabaret Voltaire and bigger ones like The Picture House and the Corn Exchange. But is there an equivalent to the Liquid Rooms? I hope so.

Albert Tatlock!
As promised. From the Skids Fan Gathering 2008, Dunfermline. Former Skids and Big Country guitarist Bruce Watson and his son Jamie doing an acoustic set before the TV Stars (see below).
A great night and the Albert Tatlock t-shirts were truly awesome.Labels: bigcountry, dunfermline, livemusic, the skids

Teenage Fanclub Live
Teenage Fanclub played three nights at the Oran Mor in Glasgow. This is from the first of those nights, 'Fallen Leaves'. Seconds later the bouncers grabbed me and ordered me to stop filming. Charming.Labels: livemusic
