Dunfermline Athletic Football Club - Maradona still a possibility
The Pars are trying to sign Maradona's son giving rise to this great quote from the club chairman:
"And it should be said Maradona is only one of a number of people we are talking to at the moment."
Which gives me an excuse to run this picture:

Celebrity Makeover
Edinburgh Central SSP
Gave this site another makeover, as the old design failed in IE/win for some reason, despite having 100% valid code. The new design looks best on Mac IE or Safari, or Netscape 7 on Windows. Looks OK in IE/opera on Windows, but you don't get the full effect!
Blogger has had a makeover as well. A general improvement, but the 'blog this' favelets don't work any more. Anyone know if updated ones are available?

A new design and URL for Bjarke Friborg, a Danish socialist slumming it with the Norwegians. Nice work but needs to utilise the entityåto represent the second letter in på in the title bar. More html character entities.

Media Goes Blogging
You know that blogging has made it when Radio 4's Today programme has an article, albeit brief, on the topic. You can still hear the article here.
Channel 4 is also joining the blogoids with what it is calling a blog. At the moment it is just a collection of links submitted by readers, let's hope it expands.
I added another couple of links - Charlie's Diary, which is a Scottish science-tech-politics-literature blog. Also Gauche, by Tribune writer Paul Anderson. Make of them what you will.

Free Asterix!

French Indymedia Report
BBC Report
Global Justice campaigner and activist in the Confédération Paysanne José Bové (known affectionately as Asterix) has been arrested once again by French police. Up to 80 flics backed up with helicopters, guns and dogs arrested José after battering down his front door. The man who's claim to fame was demolishing a McDonalds with his tractor, was arrested this time for destroying genetically modified crops.
Following the G8 summit in Evian when a protestor was deliberately injured when a rope he was attached to was cut and the crack-down on the leftist Iranian group last week in France, it seems the French government are getting twitchy. They weren't able to do much against the striking public sector workers (the union leadership did it for them) so they have to look tough where they can.
None of this will do the popular José any harm of course! Free Asterix!

Galloway papers deemed forgeries | csmonitor.com
On April 25, 2003, this newspaper ran a story about documents obtained in Iraq that alleged Saddam Hussein's regime had paid a British member of Parliament, George Galloway, $10 million over 11 years to promote its interests in the West.
An extensive Monitor investigation has subsequently determined that the six papers detailed in the April 25 piece are, in fact, almost certainly forgeries.
Imagine that. The documents which were sold for a nice sum to the Christian Science Monitor, and which framed a leading anti-war activist as a paid stooge of a murderous dictator, were forged. How long before the Daily Telegraph files meet a similar fate, and Gorgeous George makes enough money in the libel courts to buy his own newspaper?

Challenges in Uniting the Left
The latest issue of Links, the international discussion journal for socialists, which the SSP participates in, is available. It revisits much of the debate in Frontline on the type of socialist party needed today. Also interesting material on the LCR in France and the lessons of the 'participatory budget' experiment of the Workers Party in the Brazilian region of Rio Grande do Sul.

Scottish Left Review - a journal of the left in Scotland
Has a D Notice been served advising newspaper publishers to suppress facts for the sake of public order? Have Scotland’s commentators been hypnotised? Are organised gangs intimidating newsagents to prevent them from selling any publication which might reveal the truth? Surely there must be some explanation? It is now almost a month since the Scottish election and enough newsprint has been dedicated to its analysis to wrap a decade’s worth of fish suppers. And still no-one has thought it important enough to point out that the Scottish electorate has taken a seemingly conscious and informed decision to shift Scottish politics significantly to the left.
Scottish Left Review is worth checking out. The magazine is available on the site above in PDF.
