Black and White Unite and Fight

Black and White Unite and Fight, originally uploaded by alister.

Rally against the far-right EDL/SDL in Edinburgh today. Fascists were eventually holed up in a pub all day and then bussed out of town. Another failure for them in their attempts to bring hatred to the streets of Scotland.

Billy Bragg RBS Protest

Billy Bragg at Royal Bank of Scotland.

Billy Bragg brought his campaign against bonuses for Royal Bank of Scotland to Edinburgh today. His speech castigated poverty and inequality and attacked politicians who have done nothing to address these issues. Yet he exuded the "sweet moderation" he sang of in Between the Wars. A little too moderate for my tastes but kudos to him nonetheless for sticking it to the bankers.

There is some video which will emerge once I get time to upload it.

Talking to the Taxman about Poetry

Billy Bragg will be taking his campaign against the massive bonuses issued by the RBS to the streets of Edinburgh on Saturday 13th February. Had a great discussion at the SSP educational weekend Socialism 2010 on Saturday about the state of the economy. Most of the 'profits' that are being paid out right now are based on speculation and low interest rates and are widely predicted to vanish very soon.
